Beyond the Trail
During a trip to the Eastern Sierras to photograph the fall colors around the Mono Lake area I was greeted by an unusually early snowstorm that took me a bit by surprise. Normally the area around Mono Lake is still fairly warm during early October but this early snowstorm lead to some great images. The group of friends I was traveling with was up and out the door early on our way to Lundy Canyon and the famous beaver pond that's there. After scouting the area for a while I decided to hike around the multiple acre pond and found a nice overlook on its far end. The morning light was remarkable on the canyon walls, highlighting there texture and reflecting a bit of color onto the mostly frozen pond.
