Summer 2010dogwoods-overhang

While it's not officially summer just yet the warm days are just around the corner, at least I think they are.  It's still cool here in my neck of the woods, with rain and even snow in the higher elevations still coming down regularly, not your typical end of May.  I've been busy teaching photography workshops lately, spring is of course a beautiful time of year and I try to take advantage of that with my workshop scheduling.  My Big Sur Coast and Yosemite in Spring photography workshops just finished within the last couple of weeks and they couldn't have gone better.  We we're blessed to have wonderful weather for both workshops and a lot of fun too.  If you'd like to see what we did during the workshops you can read the recaps here, Yosemite / Big Sur.
The image to the right, Dogwoods Overhanging the Merced River, was taken in the Spring of 2007 and has become one of my favorite dogwood images.  The day was overcast with a bit of rain falling occasionally, the conditions were ideal for working with the beautiful white dogwood blossoms as the overcast skies provide wonderful even light for the subjects.  I set up on Phono bridge and used the longest glass I have for my Mamiya 645 system, a 150mm f/2.8, to get as tight on the dogwoods as I could while still incorporated the interesting elements and colors of the Merced River.  I remember the wind would pickup off-and-on which forced me to create a number of exposures until I was sure I got at least one without the wind moving the dogwoods.

**2011 Workshops**

My 2011 workshop schedule is up and official.  We'll be heading to some of the most photographic places in the world, Yosemite National Park, The Big Sur Coast and Mono Lake in the Eastern Sierras.  In addition, for 2011 I've added a very special workshop to Grand Teton National Park in June.  Grand Teton NP is perhaps my favorite place in the world, the park has something for everyone and June is the perfect time to experience the park during it's spring.  Flowers will be blooming, the air will be clean and crisp and young Bison will be running around everywhere, it should be amazing!  These areas are known for their beauty, which is why they've been a favorite subject for photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and many more.  You can find information regarding them on the workshops page.  I'm keeping the groups small and the cost low to make them beneficial for everyone.  Please feel free to give me some feedback, I'd love to hear it.

**New Mini Prints**

I also have some new mini print that I think are really cool, and wallet friendly!  They are open edition prints designed to be a great way to start a collection at a great price.  The prints come in both 4x5 and 8x10 sizes and are matted to either 8x10 or 16x20 depending on the print size.  I have more information about the mini prints here.
